“…Look at the rubber seeds capsule, it has three lobes, always has three lobes to contain growing seeds within. The capsule’s construction seems sturdy enough to protect the seed, with its thick sealing outer layer, albeit worn out due to dryness in some. A thin line was also noticeable alongside outer curvature of the chamber, as if easing the lobe to crack open when the time comes...” These are some of close observations made on rubber (Hevea brasiliensis) seed capsule during TRe’s “Take a 2nd Look” (Ta2L) event on 23 August 2020, held at Universiti Malaya’s (UM’s) Taman Botani Rimba Ilmu. The participants came from TNB Renewables Sdn. Bhd. (TRe) and New Energy Division (NED). Among the aim of this event is to provide awareness and nurture capabilities in making alam as inspirational resources in solving global problems / issues. Through meticulous observation of the created beings one can also realize the order, beauty, mercy, perfection, wisdom and other deep insights behind the creations. Several solution ideas were managed to be established, categorised into various fields like construction / structure, organisational network, packaging, mobility, reading aid, adaptive sensor, etc. Through scrutinizing, analysing and frowning about falling dead leaves, root network, fern’s leave structure, survival strategy of pyrrosia piloselloides, to name a few, several traits for a sustainable development, e.g. efficient resource management, complementary not competition, use of life-friendly chemistry, were realised and learned. After all, it is worth to start turning our second look to alam, a more careful look this time, and make her as our mentor, as alam not just hinting to us, but has been effectively practising the solutions for more than 4 billion years.
